Bratunac Remembers: 33 Years Since the Massacre of 3,267 Serbs in Republika Srpska

Today, July 5th, marks the grim anniversary of the massacre of 3,267 Serbs from the Middle Podrinje region during the defensive homeland war. Republika Srpska has declared a Day of Mourning, with Patriarch Porfirije leading the memorial service attended by high-ranking officials from Serbia.

This day is not just a date on the calendar but a deep wound and a warning. Along the regional road Bratunac-Potočari-Srebrenica, graffiti with the names of killed Serbian civilians and soldiers have been placed, reminding us of the cost of war and the importance of remembrance.

While the world moves on to new topics, we must not forget those who gave their lives defending their country and people. This day of mourning calls for respect, remembrance, and justice.

If you think this is just another anniversary, think again. Memory is power, and forgetting is a luxury we cannot afford. What do you think about the importance of such days? Share your thoughts, maybe your word will change someone’s view on history.
