48th Failed Attempt to Constitute Assembly in Pristina: Political Deadlock with No End

48th Failed Attempt to Constitute Assembly in Pristina: Political Deadlock with No End!

Does anyone in Pristina even know what they’re doing? Today marked the 48th attempt to constitute the Assembly of the provisional institutions in Pristina, and guess what? Nothing again! The session was interrupted, and the proposal for secret voting to elect the Assembly president was not adopted.

Who’s to Blame?

The Democratic League of Kosovo, Democratic Party of Kosovo, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, and Serbian List didn’t even propose members for the secret voting commission. Self-Determination, which won 48 mandates in the February 9 elections, insists on secret voting and their candidate Aljbuljen Haxhiu, but after 48 attempts, they still haven’t secured the required 61 votes. The highest they got was 57 votes, still short of the needed majority.

Court and Deadlines?

The Constitutional Court of Pristina ruled on June 26 that MPs must conclude the constitutive session within 30 days. But apparently, no one cares. The session started back on April 15, and interruptions have become routine — first due to unconfirmed mandates, then disagreements over the candidate and voting method.

Numbers That Sting

The elections were held on February 9, with the following seat distribution: Self-Determination 48, Democratic Party of Kosovo 24, Democratic League of Kosovo 20, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and NISMA initiative 8, Serbian List 9, Freedom, Justice, Survival party 1, and the remaining 10 seats belong to representatives of other minority communities.

What’s Next?

The session continuation is scheduled for July 19, but after 48 failed attempts, does anyone believe anything will change? The opposition rejects Self-Determination’s proposal for secret voting, and Self-Determination refuses to give up their candidate. This political deadlock has lasted three months with no end in sight.

Conclusion

If you thought politics in Pristina was dynamic and efficient, think again. Everything is stuck, and citizens are waiting for someone to finally take responsibility and move things forward. Until then, enjoy the longest and most boring political circus in the Balkans.

So, what do you think? Will the Assembly finally be constituted, or is this just the start of an endless soap opera? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s optimistic and who’s already losing their mind!
