Tragedy at Croatian Railway Crossing: One Dead, Six Injured in Train Truck Collision

Hell on the Tracks in Croatia!

Is this yet another tragedy we could have prevented? At a railway crossing in Donji Andrijevci, Brod-Posavina County, a horrific accident claimed one life and injured seven people! Yes, you read that right – one dead, seven injured!

It all happened when a freight train on the Novska-Tovarnik route collided with a truck at a crossing that lacks barriers and only has light and sound signals. Although the signals were working correctly at the time, the truck driver failed to stop. The impact was so strong that the train partially derailed!

The truck driver died on the spot, while the train driver suffered serious injuries. Six others sustained minor injuries, some of whom were released after receiving medical help. There were 30 passengers on the train at the time, who luckily escaped serious harm.

This crossing is notorious for accidents, and the fact that it has no barriers but only light and sound signals raises serious safety concerns. How many more lives must be lost before something changes?

Why do these tragedies keep happening?

Is it possible that in the 21st century, in an EU member country, railway crossings are still inadequately secured? Is it driver negligence or a systemic failure in safety measures?

This accident is yet another wake-up call for all responsible authorities to urgently review the state of railway crossings and finally implement measures to prevent such tragedies.

What do the authorities say?

Croatian Railways confirmed that the signals were working properly, but that does not lessen the tragedy. The truck driver lost his life, and the question remains whether a better protection system at the crossing could have saved him.

Conclusion

This tragedy is further proof that safety at railway crossings must be a priority. One dead and seven injured is too many! Will we wait for the next accident to react, or will we finally make a change?
