MSUCG Acquisition Exhibition: A Museum That Preserves Not Just Art, But Social Change

In a world where museums often feel like dusty vaults of forgotten things, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro (MSUCG) decided to shatter that stereotype and show that art isn’t just for looking at – it’s for understanding the world around us!

The exhibition titled “Acquisitions,” opening on July 8th at 8 PM in the MSUCG gallery, will showcase works by domestic and international contemporary artists carefully acquired by the museum recently. But this isn’t your average exhibition – it’s a cultural bombshell that testifies to the richness and diversity of contemporary artistic expression from the 1970s to today.

What’s so special? The displayed works cover everything – from video art, graphics, sculptures, paintings, drawings, installations to prints. It’s like stepping into an art time machine that takes you through decades and various artistic directions, all with a clear goal: to show how art reflects the social, political, and cultural changes of our time.

The museum doesn’t just collect art pieces; it actively shapes its collection as a living organism. This exhibition is the result of the museum’s strategic direction to continuously enrich its collection, following contemporary museological practices and engaging with global art flows. By including relevant regional and international artists, MSUCG positions itself as an institution that not only follows but supports artistic trends in Montenegro and beyond.

The exhibition will feature works by an impressive list of artists such as Aleksandar Đuravčević, Laibach, Šejla Kamerić, Lazar Pejović, Srđa Dragović, Ivana Radovanović, Mijo Mijušković, Vukosav Bojović, Risto Radmilović, Nikola Marković, Stanko Zečević, Naod Zorić, Jože Tišnikar, Vladimir Đuranović, Nikola Božović, Radomir Damjanović Damjan, Durant, Dragoljub Raša Todosijević, Braco Dimitrijević, Branko Filipović Filo, Ivan Grubanov, and Radovan Grujić.

This exhibition isn’t just an art event – it’s a call to think about the role of art in society. The Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro shows that art isn’t static but dynamic and has the power to shape and reflect our world. If you thought museums were boring, get ready to be surprised!

The exhibition will be open until August 29th, so you have plenty of time to come and see how art can be the voice of our time. And if something particularly strikes you or annoys you, feel free to drop a comment – maybe your critique or praise will spark a new conversation about what art really means today.
