My Dog, My Responsibility: Why Do Owners Still Not Get It?

People, have you ever thought that your dog is not a toy? At the “My Dog, My Responsibility” panel in Belgrade, organized by JKP Veterina Beograd and the Mozzart Foundation, the message was loud and clear: dogs are living beings, not fashion accessories or passing entertainment. Sounds basic, right? Yet, many owners still don’t get how serious responsible ownership really is.

The event gathered numerous animal lovers, with the main stars being adorable puppies from shelters who completely charmed everyone present. The love they give is immeasurable, but for that love to be returned, owners must be ready for all the responsibilities that come with having a dog.

Representatives from JKP Veterina Beograd highlighted the daily challenges they face in their work — from health care and nutrition to education and developing empathy towards animals. They stressed the importance of educating owners because only then can we build a society that respects and treats animals with love and responsibility.

The Mozzart Foundation, in cooperation with JKP Veterina Beograd, has already launched several initiatives, including donating dog houses to shelters and organizing panels that raise awareness about adoption and responsible ownership. Shelter dogs were even guests at a Partizan basketball training session, after which all found their forever homes.

But is that enough? Will owners finally realize that a dog is not just an Instagram prop but a living being dependent on their care and attention? If you have a dog, remember — it’s your responsibility, no excuses.

And you, dear readers, got a story about your pet or maybe some advice for future owners? Or maybe you’re still one of those who don’t get how serious this is? Drop a comment, let’s see who’s really ready to take responsibility!
