Hellish Heatwave Hits Serbia: Scorching 40°C and Fire Danger!

Brace yourselves, Serbia is burning up! The Republic Hydrometeorological Institute (RHMZ) has issued a fierce warning about a heatwave lasting from July 4th to 8th, with temperatures soaring up to a scorching 40 degrees Celsius. Yes, you read that right – 40 degrees! And that’s not all – drought and high temperatures are creating perfect conditions for wildfires across the country.

Heat that melts asphalt Most places in Serbia expect daily highs between 34 and 38 degrees, but locally, especially early next week, the thermometer could spike to 40 degrees. Novi Sad, Zrenjanin, Kikinda, Sremska Mitrovica, Veliko Gradište, Ćuprija, Niš, and Leskovac have already recorded temperatures around 36 degrees, while tomorrow Negotin will be the hottest spot with a blistering 40 degrees.

Belgrade under fire A special warning has been issued for Belgrade, where the heatwave is expected to intensify with temperatures between 34 and 38 degrees. Relief will only come on July 8th and 9th, first in the northwest, then spreading to the rest of the country.

Fires threaten everywhere! Due to a prolonged period without rain and extremely high temperatures, RHMZ warns of extremely favorable conditions for the outbreak and spread of fires in open areas. Dry soil and sunny weather are a perfect recipe for disaster. Meteoalarms are active across Serbia – orange means dangerous weather that can cause material damage and threaten people and animals, while red signals very dangerous weather events that can cause great damage and serious safety risks.

Where is it worst? Red alerts are active in eastern and southeastern Serbia, Pomoravlje, Banat, and Bačka. Orange alerts cover most of the country. So if you’re in these areas, better have an emergency plan and follow official advice.

What to do? Be careful, avoid the sun during the hottest parts of the day, stay hydrated, and keep an eye on weather updates. Fires are not just a nature problem but a safety hazard. Don’t light fires outdoors and report any suspicious activity.

Conclusion Serbia is on fire – not just because of the heat but also due to fire risks. This heatwave is no joke and could bring serious consequences. Are you ready to handle this hellish heat? Or will you just complain about the heat while the asphalt melts under your feet?
