Belgrade Under Siege: Blockades, Overturned Containers, and Helpless Citizens!
Morning in Belgrade didn’t bring peace, but chaos rarely seen before. Blockaders started early, harassing citizens with one goal – to stop Serbia. No, this isn’t a scene from an apocalyptic movie, but the harsh reality on the streets of the capital.
Containers as Tools of Chaos
At Republic Square, blockaders overturned containers and blocked the entrance to the Terazije tunnel. When police arrived, they scattered like rabbits, only to move to a new location and continue blocking. In New Belgrade, near the Temple of Saint Sava, Karaburma, and Dušanovac, traffic was seriously disrupted.
Police on Duty, But Is It Enough?
Police officers showed high professionalism in communicating with blockaders and decisiveness in removing blockades. Four people were arrested near the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, where they wore masks. Traffic on all bridges and vital roads was normal, but public transport had to pull trams and trolleybuses until the situation stabilized.
Citizens in Panic, Elderly Helpless
An 84-year-old grandmother trying to get to a doctor was trapped in the traffic chaos caused by blockades. Her message? “Shame on them, enough is enough!” This is not an isolated case – many citizens expressed outrage over harassment and violation of the right to free movement.
Public Prosecutor and Police: “We Won’t Allow Chaos!”
The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade appeals to citizens not to participate in blockades as they are unconstitutional and illegal. Police have legal authority to temporarily restrict freedom of movement, remove blockades, and use force if necessary. All measures are taken independently, without prior consultation with judges or prosecutors, aiming to preserve public order and peace.
Students and Calls for Violence
The situation is further complicated by students from Belgrade faculties who posted calls for the death of police officers, causing additional concern and public condemnation. These calls were soon removed from social media, but the damage was done.
Vučević and Dačić: “Blockades Failed!”
President of the Serbian Progressive Party Miloš Vučević stated that the blockades failed and that blockaders take away others’ rights, physically attack them, and flee at incredible speed. Interior Minister Ivica Dačić confirmed that all bridges in Belgrade are passable and that police are on alert, prioritizing vital points in the city.
Conclusion: Who Is the Real Culprit?
While blockaders claim to fight for their rights, the truth is they harass ordinary citizens and disrupt public order. Police and prosecutors are doing their job, but the question remains how long they can withstand the pressure and whether the situation will escalate further.
