Serbia’s Borders: Heat, Traffic Jams, and New Rules at Checkpoints

Scorching heat and border chaos in Serbia finally got a break! At the busiest border crossings, Batrovci and Horgoš 1, passenger vehicle wait times have shrunk to a maximum of 30 minutes. Yes, you read that right — half an hour, not the multi-hour lines that used to torture travelers in past years! Thanks to reconstruction and more lanes, the situation is way better now. Truck queues that once stretched up to five kilometers have been slashed to just a few meters.

But don’t get too comfy — the blazing 36°C heat still forces travelers to pack plenty of water because, while shorter, waits still exist. The Šid and Šidovarnik crossings operate 24/7, and smaller crossings like Bajmok are now open around the clock, while Bački Vinograd stays open until 10 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

More and more travelers are choosing to hit the road at night or early morning to dodge the crowds. Most use Serbia as a transit route to the seaside, while Serbian citizens mostly head to Croatia.

Though things are under control now, remember that just days ago, truck lines on the way out of the country were massive, and the heat still causes headaches. So if you’re planning a trip, gear up with water, patience, and maybe a few good jokes about border waits.

Got a wild border story or a survival tip for the heat and queues? Drop a comment and let’s laugh or rant together — because borders are our daily reality, and a little humor never hurts!
