Camp Mystic, located by the river in Hunt, is known for hosting thousands of children every year, but now it has turned into a scene of horror.
Girls were evacuated by helicopters, many holding onto ropes as they crossed bridges while floodwaters surged around their feet. The camp is completely destroyed, and parents are in tears, not knowing where their daughters are. Elinor Lester, one of the evacuated girls, described how the cabins of younger girls were the first to flood, forcing them to climb to higher ground.

The situation is so severe that the Guadalupe River rose 8 meters in just 45 minutes, completely submerging measuring stations. This is not the first deadly flood in the region – decades ago, a bus carrying teenagers from another camp drowned in the river, killing ten children.
