Belgrade Thirst Strike: Savski Venac and Čukarica Left High and Dry by Water Works

Belgraders, grab your buckets and bottles because you’re about to run dry! Yes, again! On Savski Venac, streets like Karađorđeva, Kamenička, Kraljevića Marka, and a few others will be without water on Tuesday, July 8th, from 8 AM to 6 PM. The city’s water utility, JKP “Beogradski vodovod i kanalizacija,” announced the water cut is due to installing a new pipeline. Sure, emergency water needs will be covered by water trucks, but who really wants to drink from a tanker? Better stock up now!

But wait, there’s more! Čukarica isn’t taking it lying down! On Friday, July 4th, from 8:30 AM to 6 PM, the even side of Požeška Street, Kneza Višeslava, and Pastrićeva will also be left high and dry due to planned water network works. Again, water trucks and pleas to prepare your water stash.

Is this the new normal in Belgrade? Is water becoming a luxury we’ll soon have to buy bottled? While the works go on, residents ask: where’s the planning and why no early warnings?

If you live in Savski Venac or Čukarica, brace yourself for a waterless day and don’t forget to share your woes in the comments. Maybe together we’ll find a solution or at least get a good laugh while waiting for the water to flow again!
