Vučić and the Highway Opening: Hero or Propaganda?

Vučić has officially opened a new section of the E763 Miloš Veliki highway, between Preljina and Požega, stretching 19.56 kilometers, including the two longest road tunnels in Serbia – Laz and Munjino Brdo. The president highlighted that this is the most challenging section ever built in Serbia, with numerous geological difficulties, but the work was successfully completed. Vučić proudly emphasized that Serbia has built more highways in the last 13 years than in the previous 67, totaling around 1,000 kilometers of highways and expressways. He also announced that on July 15, the highway will be free for drivers, another gesture towards the citizens.

The president spoke about the importance of dual education and the arrival of major investors, as well as improving safety on the highway, with 24-hour monitoring and numerous safety systems in the tunnels. The project was financed by the Serbian government and built by the Chinese company China Communications Construction Company, valued at around 400 million euros.

Vučić criticized the blockades and protests in Serbia, stating that they harm the country and the economy, and praised the police for professionally handling a difficult task. He appealed to the protesters to end the blockades and join the work for the country’s benefit.

This highway section will significantly improve connectivity in western Serbia, opening the way to Užice, Prijepolje, Priboj, Nova Varoš, and other places, as well as boosting the tourist potential of the Ovčar-Kablar Gorge. Vučić also announced the arrival of a major German investor in Paraćin, another sign of economic development.

Overall, Vučić uses the highway opening as a symbol of his government’s success while simultaneously criticizing the opposition and protests, portraying himself as a builder and protector of Serbia. But is everything really that great? Some will say this is just another political show, while others see tangible progress. What about you? Do you believe these stories or think this is just another Vučić parade? Drop a comment, let’s see who’s for and who’s against!
