In France, the trial of Joël L. Skuarnec, a 73-year-old surgeon accused of abusing and raping 299 children from 1989 to 2014, primarily in the province of Brittany, is beginning. Skuarnec has been in prison since 2017, following his arrest after a police investigation was initiated due to suspicions of him raping nieces and patients. During the investigation, evidence was found, including photographs of the abuse and a diary in which he recorded his misdeeds. The FBI had previously warned authorities.
