One Year Fighting Violence: Is Equality Really Within Reach?

A whole year has passed since the launch of the project “Stop Violence, Achieve Equality,” and the results make you wonder — how close are we really to the goal? The Serbian government, together with UN agencies and support from Sweden, backed 81 civil society organizations fighting violence against women and children. Is that enough? Tatjana Macura, who coordinates the project, says significant progress was made last year, but there’s still a long road ahead.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Đuro Macut is calling for peace and understanding in society, while in Belgrade, blockades and acts of vandalism are happening. According to him, these are not linked to student protests but are classic vandalism. The government has made decisions on university enrollment quotas, trying to maintain continuity in higher education despite challenges.

All this shows how divided society is and how hard it is to keep order and justice. Fighting violence and achieving equality isn’t just about laws and projects — it’s about social awareness and responsibility. Are we ready to face these challenges, or will we just watch problems grow?
