Day four of hell in Banjani! Firefighters from Nikšić and the Montenegrin army are battling a raging wildfire on inaccessible terrain, while the wind fans the flames mercilessly. The fire in the Gornji Crkvica-Tovići area shows no signs of stopping. Helicopter units and local residents are doing everything they can to save homes and nature. Firefighting commander Slavko Tadić admits the terrain is so overgrown and inaccessible that fighting the fire is a nightmare. “We have no trails, no paths, everything is overgrown, and the wind just spreads the fire further,” says Tadić. The army has arrived as reinforcements, and everyone is hoping for the rain forecasted for Tuesday.
