Last night, Užice turned into a hotspot of chaos and anger! Two young men were arrested during protests, and citizens gathered outside the Užice Police Department demanding their release. The atmosphere was electric – applause for the arrested, shouts of “Take off your helmets!” and “Your hands are bloody!” echoed through the streets as the gendarmerie tried to maintain control.
It all started when the police intervened to break up a blockade of the main road organized by citizens as a form of protest. One of the arrested is P.K., 32 years old, and the demonstrators gave him an 11-hour deadline to be released, threatening to stay in front of the station until that happens. They also announced a bigger gathering for tomorrow, meaning the clashes are just heating up.
Citizens managed to break through the police cordon, further escalating tensions. This event is part of the seventh day of blockades across Serbia, including Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, and Čačak. The police in Užice showed they will not tolerate peaceful protests, which sparked even greater outrage among the crowd.
