Sara Pribis: The Successful Actress Hiding a Dark Secret of Alcoholism
Sara Pribis, a smiling and successful actress from Philadelphia, hid her dark battle with alcoholism for years. Despite achieving her dream of acting in New York, graduating from the prestigious Tisch School, and starring in popular series like Netflix’s “Two Sentence Horror Stories” and Bravo’s “Dirty John,” her reality was far from glamorous.
Alcohol was part of her daily life; she hid the truth from family, friends, and even herself. For years, she drank secretly, often before work, with relapses and falls being part of her life. One of the hardest moments was when she was drunk and sent home from an elite New York bar, which deeply shook her.
Free alcohol at work and constant offers from colleagues only worsened the situation. Sara even smuggled alcohol in small bottles disguised as hair lacquer so no one would suspect. Her only support was her partner, Alex, who openly told her he couldn’t watch her destroy herself.
After moving to Philadelphia to her father, who was himself an alcoholic but sober for 11 years, Sara went through a tough detox process. She successfully maintained sobriety for three years, landed a job hosting the popular quiz HQ Trivia, and seemed to be on the right path.
However, a relapse followed when a wealthy man offered her money to drink a glass of wine at a charity event, marking the start of her downfall. The pandemic worsened the situation, and Sara drank daily, often a whole bottle of wine.
Her second attempt at sobriety was more serious: 12-step meetings, meditation, journaling. Today, Sara does not drink, sleeps better, acts better, and saves at least $100 a week. She wants to break the myth that alcoholics must look broken. You can be a successful, put-together woman and still hide immense pain.
Sara now has the tools to handle life, appreciate the little things, and be emotionally stable. Most importantly, she can look at herself in the mirror and be proud.
