Imagine this scene: half a million people at Zagreb’s Hippodrome, all standing, waiting for Thompson! And what happens? Before going on stage, Marko Perković and his band cross themselves, as if preparing for a holy mission. In the background, the crowd’s chanting is heard, captured in a TikTok video posted by the production company Novalis Studio Film Rental. The concert organizers thanked everyone the next day — from the fans to the police, firefighters, and volunteers — saying that together they made the event magnificent and dignified. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
The Social Democratic Party of Croatia (SDP) didn’t hold back their criticism. They called the concert shameful and accused the authorities of providing logistical support instead of condemning the extremist messages heard during the event. SDP claims the concert was full of messages glorifying the Ustaše, which they say is a dangerous game with youth who see it as a video game, while in reality, it’s historical revisionism and spreading hate.
Marko Perković gave a speech urging the youth to stay vigilant and take over Croatia, saying his generation created the country. These words further fueled the heated debates.
On the other hand, Croatian singer Severina posted on Instagram that antifascism is the greatest concept in the world, making her stance on the event clear, which gathered tens of thousands of people.
While political tensions simmer, workers at the Hippodrome spent days on their feet selling drinks and food, finally getting a break after the concert.
All in all, Marko Perković Thompson’s concert in Zagreb was not just a musical event but a political earthquake that ignited passions and reopened old wounds. What do you think? Is this just music or something way more dangerous? Drop a comment and let’s see which side of the fire you’re on!
