The Storm That Wrecked Hungary!
Hungary faced a full-blown weather apocalypse yesterday! A powerful storm hit the northern part of the country, the area around Lake Balaton, Buda, and the Great Plain, leaving hundreds of thousands of households without electricity. Yes, you read that right – hundreds of thousands! Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced on Facebook that all relevant services are working around the clock to restore power and clear roads and railway tracks of obstacles brought by the storm.
Airport in Chaos!
Due to the severe weather, Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport was forced to suspend air traffic. The departing hall 2A was partially flooded, and the building was evacuated. Imagine this – travelers stuck, while firefighters and rescue teams tirelessly battled a fiery blaze that engulfed wooden structures and literally burned them to the ground.
Wind Gone Wild!
Meteorologists warned of dangerously strong wind gusts, and an incoming cold front will only make things worse. People joined firefighters trying to protect whatever they could, many spending the night without power and with sleepless anxiety.
What About Public Transport?
Obstacles on railway tracks and roads seriously disrupted public transport. Services are rushing to restore normal operations, but it’s clear recovery will take time. Imagine how many people were trapped or late for work, school, and other commitments!
