Welcome to the latest episode of the media spectacle shaking Serbia! The Complaints Commission of the Press Council has unanimously condemned N1 and United Media for their “orchestrated attack” on Kurir journalists. Yes, you read that right – N1 is accused of violating five key points of the Serbian Journalists’ Code in their articles from March 31 and April 1.
First, N1 allegedly breached the rules of truthful reporting by spreading unfounded accusations and slander without any evidence. Then, there is the breach of independence, as economic and political interests are said to have influenced editorial policy, resulting in biased and incomplete public information.
But wait, there’s more! The Commission also pointed out irresponsibility in reporting, using aggressive rhetoric and hate speech, which is totally unacceptable for professional journalists. According to the decision, N1 also violated principles of respecting dignity by discriminating against protest participants based on social origin and calling them offensive names like “failed artists” and “wannabe influencers.”
All this culminated in the conclusion that N1 offered no proof for its claims and failed to clearly separate facts from speculation. Protest participants unfortunately became victims of such unprofessional reporting, sparking a storm of public reactions.
This Press Council decision sheds new light on the media war between Kurir and N1, which seems far from over. Is this just another example of media manipulation or has someone finally put a stop to irresponsible journalism?
Either way, if you thought media battles were boring, think again! This drama is far from over, and we’ll be watching every move closely. So, what do you think? Did N1 cross the line or is Kurir just too sensitive? Drop a comment and let your voice be heard!
