The Bloody End of One of America’s Most Notorious Serial Killers!
Exactly 30 years ago, the world was horrified by the crimes of Jeffrey Dahmer, the Milwaukee serial killer, but few know how his life ended brutally – almost the same way his bloody spree began.
Death in Prison – A Bloody Revenge
On November 28, 1994, Jeffrey Dahmer was brutally beaten to death with a metal bar by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver while they were cleaning prison facilities together at Columbia Correctional Institution in Wisconsin. Despite serving 16 life sentences, this act of violence marked the bloody end of one of the most notorious killers in American history.
Christopher Scarver, already serving a life sentence for murder, said Dahmer deeply disturbed him with his behavior in prison – making figures out of human limbs and using ketchup to simulate blood, which disgusted other inmates.
That fateful day, while cleaning the prison gym, Scarver claims someone pushed him from behind, and when he turned around, he saw Dahmer and another inmate laughing. He took a metal bar and brutally beat Dahmer in the locker room, then did the same to the other inmate.
The Beginning of a Bloody Path
Jeffrey Dahmer began his bloody spree in 1978, when he was only 18 years old. His first victim was Steven Hicks, also eighteen, whom he picked up while hitchhiking home from a concert. He took him to his parents’ house in Ohio, strangled him, hit him with a bar, dismembered the body, and put the parts in garbage bags.
After that first murder, Dahmer did not kill for nine years, during which he joined the army and was stationed in Germany but was soon discharged due to alcohol problems. Although the urge to kill was always present, there was no opportunity to satisfy it.
Horrific Crimes and Creepy Habits
According to global media, Dahmer killed at least 17 men, drugged their drinks, strangled them, cut their bodies with an electric saw. He did not want to eat the bones but threw them into barrels. He arranged three skulls on a shelf in his apartment, spraying them with gray paint to disguise them as plastic models.
At his 1992 trial, he expressed remorse, saying he knew society would never forgive him and that he would give his life to bring back the people he killed.
Reactions to Death and Police Failures
Dahmer’s death sparked heated reactions – some believed justice was finally served, while others argued he should have suffered in prison. The Milwaukee district attorney called it the last sad chapter of a very sad life.
His parents had different wishes – his mother wanted his brain preserved for scientific research, while his father wanted him cremated. In the end, the body and brain were cremated.
One of the most tragic aspects of the case were numerous police failures. Neighbors repeatedly reported strange noises and smells from his apartment, but the police did not respond adequately. Also, in May 1991, two teenage girls found a naked injured 14-year-old boy on the street and called for help, but police believed Dahmer’s story that the boy was just drunk and left him with the killer, who soon murdered him.
Dahmer in Popular Culture
Jeffrey Dahmer’s crimes have been depicted multiple times in films and series, including Netflix’s “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” where he is portrayed by Evan Peters. However, families of the victims say these portrayals further traumatize them.
