Imagine a single mother, Stojna Novaković, who has been carrying a burden for years that would break even the strongest. Her daughter Sara has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, is completely immobile, and fully dependent on care. Now, Stojna urgently needs surgery due to a blood clot, but the problem? She has no one to leave Sara with during her hospital stay!
This brave woman from Rakovica, Belgrade, has been fighting for her beloved daughter’s life for decades. Sara was born with severe disabilities, and Stojna is her only support and strength. They have the right to wheelchairs, but only every five years, and replacements are complicated by stairs and other obstacles.
About a month ago, Stojna began feeling numbness and weakness in her arm. She was diagnosed with a blood clot and urgently needs surgery. But who will take care of Sara while she is in the hospital? There is no one!
A plea for help appeared on social media. Sonja Radojević, a woman with a big heart, shared this heartbreaking story and called on anyone with experience working with disabled children or any ideas to help. Care would be paid for, but finding someone is difficult.
Stojna chose to give up herself and carry another cross so her daughter could get the medical help she needs. Her story touched many, and Sara is now with a brave and compassionate woman who will care for her.
This situation shines a light on the problem many families in Serbia face — the lack of adequate support for children with special needs and their parents. While the state provides wheelchairs every five years, real life and obstacles are much more complicated.
If you have ideas, experience, or know someone who could help Stojna and Sara, reach out. This story is not just about one family but about a system that often fails to provide basic help to those who need it most.
And you? Can you imagine being in Stojna’s shoes? Or leaving a child who depends on you, not knowing if everything will be okay? Share your thoughts — maybe your word or idea could change someone’s life.
