Devastating Fires in Southern Serbia: EU Ambassador Offers Help as Government Allocates Millions

Hellfire in Southern Serbia!

Southern Serbia is burning like never before! Fires that erupted within just 12 hours in the Toplica region, including Žitorađa, Blace, Kuršumlija, and Prokuplje, have caused a full-blown disaster. The material damage is massive, and residents have lost their homes, watching their lives turn to ashes. Luckily, no lives were lost, but tears and pain are everywhere.

EU Steps Up!

The European Union Ambassador to Serbia, Emanuele Žiofre, took to social media expressing solidarity and offering help through the civil protection mechanism. “I am horrified by the devastating fires. Our thoughts are with all those affected, the brave firefighters, and volunteers on the ground. We are ready to support Serbia with true solidarity,” Žiofre wrote.

Government Acts Fast!

Prime Minister Đuro Macut and Finance Minister Siniša Mali didn’t waste any time. The Serbian government urgently allocated three million euros in aid for the most affected. A state of emergency was declared in the hardest-hit municipalities, and firefighters and volunteers are battling the blaze around the clock.

Tears and Flames

Villagers from the affected areas shared heartbreaking stories. Many cried on camera as they watched their homes turn to ruins. This tragedy has touched all our hearts and shows how merciless nature can be — but also how vital solidarity is.

What’s Next?

As Serbia fights this fiery disaster, the big questions remain: Are we ready for such catastrophes in the future? Will help arrive on time? Will there be investments in prevention? And how much will all this cost us?
