Minister Vujić: Amendments to Court Fees Law Aim for More Efficient Collection and Better Staff Conditions in Judiciary

Justice Minister Nenad Vujić announced today that amendments to the law on court fees are primarily aimed at creating a more efficient mechanism for fee collection and extending the statute of limitations for fee payment. He emphasized that fees will increase by only about 10 percent, the first change in many years. The amendments also change the distribution of funds — instead of the current 20 percent, 40 percent of the revenue from fees will be directed to judiciary employees, improving their material conditions. Vujić explained that court fees are the Ministry of Justice’s own revenues, not used for salaries but to enhance employees’ working conditions. He warned that pressure on courts and blockades are unacceptable and that courts must be allowed to operate freely. A working group has been formed to work on the new law to improve the efficiency of clerical and administrative services in the judiciary. These amendments are expected to come into force immediately after adoption by the Parliament, scheduled for July.
