Vienna Police Smash International Drug Ring!
Vienna is back in the headlines, but not for its beautiful sights. This time, it’s for a massive drug bust and arrests! In a spectacular operation in southern Vienna, police arrested three men – three Bosnian citizens and one Serbian man (46) – who tried to transport a staggering 36 kilograms of cannabis and cannabis resin.
How did it go down?
The suspects arrived with a truck and semi-trailer at a wholesale food and flower center. They attempted to transfer the drugs into a smaller van. But the police were ready! The special unit EKO Cobra swooped in and arrested all three on the spot.
Inside the vehicles, police found 11 cardboard boxes filled with cannabis in the van and another 25 boxes in the semi-trailer. In total, 36 kilograms of cannabis plant material and 10.2 kilograms of cannabis resin were seized, along with €21,000 in cash.
An international drug chain?
This bust is not an isolated incident. Over the past few months, Vienna police have dismantled several international networks linking Western Balkan countries and North Africa. In June, participants from six countries, including Serbia, Ukraine, and Austria, were arrested, with multiple kilograms of drugs and tens of thousands of euros seized.
The Serbian man arrested in this operation was under intense surveillance by Vienna’s street crime task force. He was suspected of drug dealing and was caught when trying to hand over drugs to a buyer.
What’s next?
Police do not rule out further arrests and thank citizens for their cooperation, urging anyone with information about similar activities to come forward.
