Tragedy at the Drina Regatta: Two Versions of Radisa Mijailovic’s Drowning Shock Serbia

The Drina Regatta, an event that has brought thousands of people together in joy and celebration for 25 years, was overshadowed this year by a tragedy that shocked all of Serbia. Thirty-three-year-old Radisa Mijailovic from the village of Rogota near Ljubovija drowned in the Drina River, and there are two completely different versions of the incident that confuse the public and spark a storm of comments.

The first version claims that Radisa jumped from a boat and hit his head on a rock, leading to his death. The second, equally chilling version says his heart stopped due to the temperature difference between the water and the air, causing a fatal reaction. The accident happened around 1:30 PM, and although emergency services arrived quickly, there was no saving him.

This is the first fatal tragedy in the 25-year history of the Drina Regatta, which has been synonymous with joy and camaraderie. The investigation is being conducted by the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Užice, as the accident occurred in the municipality of Bajina Bašta. Radisa Mijailovic’s body was pulled from the river, leaving his family and the entire community in shock.

This tragedy casts a shadow over the jubilee 25th event and reminds us how fragile life is, even in places where we gather to celebrate and enjoy. The Drina River, which has been a place of happiness for years, took a young life this time, leaving questions unanswered and endless sorrow.
