Imagine a world where kids in schools don’t stare at their phone screens but actually talk and learn! The Netherlands just did that – they banned smartphones in schools and the results are mind-blowing. According to the latest study, a whopping 75% of students say it’s easier to concentrate now, and 59% report a better social environment at school. Yes, you read that right – kids are actually talking to each other, and teachers are thrilled!
Before these measures were introduced, there were tons of protests and fears that kids would be angry and classes would be disrupted. But now? Almost all schools have adapted, and students either leave their phones at home or lock them in lockers. And that’s not all – 28% of students say their school results have improved!
Researcher Alexander Krepel from the Konstam Institute points out that the biggest improvement is in student interaction. During breaks, instead of staring at their phones, kids are forced to talk! Teachers are happy because the classroom atmosphere is much better, and discipline has improved.
Dutch statistics show that 96% of children use the internet daily, mostly via mobile phones, which is why the government decided to limit phone use in schools. Previously, parents were advised to ban social media for kids under 15 and limit internet time.
This move is a real blow to digital addiction and shows it’s possible to bring kids back to the real world, at least while they’re at school. Maybe it’s time for other countries to follow the Netherlands’ example and stop letting phones be the main culprits for bad grades and bad school atmosphere.
