French Police Slash Migrant Boats: Britain Cheers Controversial Move

French police on a beach in Boulogne slashed a rubber boat full of migrants trying to cross the English Channel with a knife. The boat carried men, women, and children and was at risk of sinking due to strong waves. Police acted quickly to prevent a tragedy, saving all passengers. Afterwards, the migrants were transported by buses back to refugee camps in northern France. British authorities publicly supported the move, calling it a “significant moment” in the fight against illegal crossings. This incident sparked concern because French police usually do not intervene in such a manner except in emergencies. However, under pressure to stop the rise of illegal crossings into the UK, France is considering new tactics, including using patrol boats to intercept smuggler vessels before they become overcrowded with migrants. This controversial practice raises questions about humanity and migrant rights as Europe faces increasing migration pressures.
