Minister Beriša Visits Selenča: Guardians of Peace and Interethnic Tolerance in Serbia!
Did you know there is a village in Serbia where Slovaks make up the majority of the population? Yes, you read that right! Selenča, in the municipality of Bač, is not just a village but a fortress of interethnic peace and tolerance. The Minister for Human and Minority Rights, Istar Beriša, recently visited this place and made it clear: “No one should disrupt relations among communities!”
Why is Selenča important?
Selenča is an example of how interethnic relations are nurtured in Serbia. Minister Beriša met with the municipality president Lela Milinović and representatives of the Slovak national minority, emphasizing that peace is a prerequisite for societal progress.
State and minorities: Dialogue and support
Beriša stressed that Serbia, as a democratic society, is founded on principles of equality and respect for diversity. The state is committed to improving the position of all national minorities and is open to dialogue on current challenges and possible solutions in local communities.
Economy and minorities: Selenča as a model
It’s not just politics. The minister also visited businesses in Selenča, such as the construction company Slovan Progres and the fruit and vegetable processing factory Zdravo Organic. These companies have contributed for decades to the economic development and employment in the Bač municipality.
Why does this matter?
At a time when national and ethnic conflicts flare up in many parts of the world, Serbia shows that it is possible to maintain peace and tolerance. But is it enough? Are enough efforts being made to spread such examples to other communities?
What do you think?
Is the policy towards national minorities in Serbia truly at a high level, or is this just a show? How do you see the future of interethnic relations in our country? Drop a comment, share your thoughts, or tell a story from your area. Let the voice of the people be heard!
