Vučić’s TV Showdown: Gaslighting, Manipulations, and the War on Blockaders

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has once again proven himself a master manipulator and gaslighter in his latest TV appearance on Pink on July 10. While citizens blocked roads in protest, Vučić publicly declared them victims of a “terrible manipulation” of “unbelievable proportions” that supposedly drives them to fight for something irrational. In his performance, the president directly stated that the blockades are meaningless and that those participating have no rational reason to protest. This is not just criticism — it’s classic gaslighting, an attempt to make people question their own reality and understanding.

But that’s not all. Vučić continued labeling and attacking internal opponents in his Pink interview. He called lawyer Zdenko Tomanović “the biggest scoundrel among scoundrels” and accused the Rector of the University of Belgrade, Vladan Đokić, of breaking the law and engaging in political activities at the faculty, which is forbidden.

The president did not shy away from threats — he said he could organize attacks on opposition party offices within an hour but chooses not to and would demand the arrest of anyone who broke windows. Such statements send chills and recall authoritarian tactics that should be a thing of the past.

Vučić also tried to portray himself as a hero fighting for Serbia and its people, claiming he never bowed his head even in the toughest moments of protests. However, his attacks on media in the region, especially in Sarajevo and Pristina, where he spoke of “hatred against Serbs,” seem like an attempt to paint Serbia as a victim while denying any responsibility for internal issues.

This TV performance is not just another interview — it’s a continuation of a campaign of intimidation, manipulation, and societal polarization. While students and citizens demand accountability and fulfillment of their demands, the president publicly humiliates and labels them as irrational and manipulated.

If you thought politics in Serbia was boring, think again. Vučić has shown he is ready to use every opportunity to confuse, intimidate, and control the public, all under the guise of fighting for the people and the country. What do you think — are the blockades really meaningless, or is Vučić just panicking? Drop a comment, let the voice of the people be heard!
