USAID staff on leave; key roles stay. Trump closing agency.

Around 10,000 employees at USAID have been placed on administrative leave, with only staff responsible for critical functions remaining. President Donald Trump plans to dissolve the foreign aid agency and merge it with the State Department. Most employees abroad will be returned to the USA within 30 days. Trump has called USAID “corrupt,” and the agency’s headquarters in Washington has been closed. USAID has a budget of $40 billion funded by Congress.
