Concerns are growing over attempts to circumvent these restrictions, and legislation is being considered that would require AI chip manufacturers to precisely confirm where their products end up.
Reuters reported last month that US officials suspect Chinese AI company DeepSeek is aiding Chinese military intelligence operations using front companies to bypass US export controls. Nvidia, meanwhile, is reportedly preparing a cheaper version of its leading Blackwell AI chip for the Chinese market.
The senators reminded of earlier warnings about Nvidia’s activities potentially encouraging the development of China’s AI chip industry, citing the opening of a new research center in Shanghai as an example. So, while Nvidia tries to conquer the world with AI technology, US lawmakers fight to prevent that technology from ending up in the hands of the Chinese military.
