Serbian Orthodox Church in Tears: Catechist Stefan Đokić Dies Suddenly at 30!
Can you believe it? A young man, full of life, knowledge, and faith, taken away so soon! Stefan Đokić, a beloved catechist adored by children and villagers alike, passed away suddenly at the tender age of 30. His life was a shining example of devotion to faith, education, and love for people. Born on October 18 in Zvornik, Stefan grew up following his father’s priestly service, protoierej Dragan Đokić, and showed exceptional dedication at the Theological Seminary in Niš and later at the Orthodox Theological Faculty in Belgrade, where he was pursuing his master’s degree.
His death shook the entire community. Patriarch Porfirije personally conducted the funeral service on July 11 at the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Procopius at the Orlovača cemetery, highlighting Stefan as a man of extraordinary virtues whose life was cut tragically short. His wife Ivana, a master pharmacist, and their love were a shining example of Christian community.
Stefan was loved by children and adults alike for his warm, witty, and unassuming approach. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. The Serbian Orthodox Church expressed deep sorrow and faith in resurrection.
This tragic event reminds us how fragile life is and how important it is to cherish those who selflessly give themselves to others. Stefan Đokić was not just a catechist; he was a beacon of faith and love in the community.
