Belgrade Morning Traffic Calm: GSP Runs Smoothly, Blockades Over, But What Next?

Belgrade woke up this morning with all streets passable and public transport running smoothly. The city’s public transport company, GSP, confirmed that all lines are operating on their regular schedule, a rare relief especially after last night’s protests and blockades.

Yes, you read that right – there were blockades, but they are over now, and traffic has returned to normal.

Last night, groups of protesters gathered in front of the Faculty of Law in Belgrade, blocking the intersection between King Alexander Boulevard and other city streets. A smaller group then marched along the Boulevard of Arts, the roundabout, and over the Branko Bridge, causing traffic disruptions. However, after returning towards New Belgrade, traffic was restored.

This is not the first time Belgrade has faced such blockades disrupting daily life. Although GSP managed to maintain regular service, these actions clearly cause chaos and frustration among drivers and passengers alike.

In addition, Banatska Street in Zemun will have a changed public transport schedule starting August 15, complicating matters for residents there. The Traffic Secretariat also announced changes during road repair works at Republic Square, expected to last until July 16, with a wider area around the square closed to traffic.

All this points to ongoing serious traffic problems in Belgrade, even if this morning looks calm. Is this just a breather or the beginning of the end for blockades? Citizens are certainly tired of the chaos, and the question remains how much more they can endure.

Meanwhile, police and city services continue to monitor the situation and try to prevent new blockades and protests that could disrupt normal life in the capital. But is that enough?

If you drove through the city this morning enjoying the peaceful streets, know that it might be temporary. And if you got stuck in traffic due to roadworks or schedule changes, you’re not alone. Belgrade is a city that never sleeps, but sometimes it feels like it can’t breathe from stress.

While we wait to see what happens next, feel free to share your traffic adventures or frustrations in the comments. Maybe together we’ll find a solution or at least a good reason to laugh while stuck in a jam!
