Vučić and Žiofre: EU as a Partner or Just Another Story of Promises?

Vučić and Žiofre: EU as a Partner or Just Another Story of Promises?

Today, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić received a farewell visit from the head of the European Union delegation to Serbia, Emanuel Žiofre. The meeting was warm and friendly, and Vučić took the opportunity to summarize the cooperation results between Serbia and the EU during Žiofre’s mandate. Of course, it was all wrapped in nice words about strengthening relations and joint projects, but is it really that great?

EU as the “biggest foreign trade partner” – but what does that mean for the average person?

Vučić reiterated that the EU remains Serbia’s biggest foreign trade partner and one of the largest investors. Projects that, as he says, changed the face of Serbia have raised the quality of life for citizens. But is that really true? Have these projects truly benefited ordinary people, or are they just nice stories for the public?

Western Balkans Growth Plan – another fairy tale?

They especially discussed the implementation of projects foreseen by the Western Balkans Growth Plan. It sounds big and important, but what is actually happening? How many of these projects have really been implemented? Is the EU truly a reliable partner, or is it just using Serbia as a playground for its interests?

Energy and infrastructure projects – lights and shadows

Vučić highlighted joint energy and infrastructure projects as examples of good cooperation. But has Serbia really gotten what it needs? How much have these projects improved energy security and infrastructure? Or are these just empty phrases serving political promotion?

Personal gratitude and friendship – political show or genuine emotion?

The president thanked Ambassador Žiofre for his personal commitment and friendship towards Serbia. It sounds nice, but is it just part of diplomatic games? How ready is the EU to truly engage with Serbia, and how much is just formality?

What’s next?

Vučić invited Žiofre to visit Serbia again as a dear and respected guest. But while they exchange kind words, ordinary Serbian citizens still wonder – what about the real problems? Will the EU and Serbia really manage to take a step forward together, or will everything remain empty promises and political phrases?

Conclusion

The meeting between Vučić and Žiofre is yet another opportunity to show how Serbia and the EU have “great cooperation.” But behind the scenes, questions and doubts remain. Is the EU truly Serbia’s partner, or just another story of promises that are hard to fulfill? While we wait for answers, we can only ask – who really profits from this cooperation?
