Tragedy at Novi Sad Train Station: Canopy Collapse Claims 16 Lives!

Shock and disbelief! On November 1st, a canopy at the Novi Sad train station collapsed, killing 16 people, including four minors, and seriously injuring one person. The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad immediately responded by arriving at the scene and launching a thorough investigation. But wait, it wasn’t terrorism! Forensic analysis clearly showed no presence of explosives, meaning the tragedy was caused by something else — but what?

Right after the accident, emergency services fought to rescue survivors trapped under the rubble, while inspectors and experts carefully examined the remains of the canopy. Video footage from the station’s security cameras was seized, along with the computer system controlling the surveillance, for investigation purposes. Despite numerous obstacles, including delays caused by defense requests to exclude experts and prosecutors, justice is not backing down.

So far, 26 witnesses have been questioned, and the expert commission’s hearings have been interrupted multiple times due to procedural issues. Still, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad promises to file charges and hold all responsible parties accountable.

This tragedy is a stark reminder of how crucial it is to take public safety seriously. Sixteen lives were lost, and the victims’ families deserve answers and justice.
