WHO says aspartame might cause cancer; some want a ban.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified the artificial sweetener aspartame as “possibly carcinogenic to humans.” This sweetener is found in more than 2,500 products in Europe, predominantly in sugar-free beverages. In response, organizations such as Foodwatch, the French League Against Cancer, and the company Yuka have launched a petition for its ban, which has been sent to the European Commission. Foodwatch representative Natacha Cingotti emphasized the importance of action by European institutions concerning consumer protection.
