Education Blockades in Serbia: Who’s Really Paying the Price?

Education Blockades in Serbia: Who’s Really Paying the Price?

Serbia is in the middle of an education crisis with blockades causing chaos and dividing public opinion. While some call for support of the blockades, others condemn them as obstruction that harms everyone, especially students and the education system. But what is really going on, and who is the biggest loser here?

Blockades Creating Chaos

For the third consecutive day, media outlets like N1 and Nova S highlight connections between parts of the prosecution and blockade organizers, complicating the situation further. Police have been checking identities overnight, detaining three people and filing four misdemeanor charges. Meanwhile, students and activists continue the blockades, which some participants admit are contradictory — as they simultaneously seek ways to continue their studies abroad!

Attacks and Violence – Where Is This Heading?

The situation escalated to the point where blockaders attacked the home of Miloš Vučević in Novi Sad, disturbing him and his family. The Association of Journalists of Serbia condemned the brutal attack on journalist Emilija Marić, calling the blockaders a violent mob. Even Srđan Nogo called on blockaders to attack the homes of government officials, further fueling tensions.

Who Is Behind the Blockades?

One of the protest leaders, Professor Filip Misita, was caught in a venue in Kragujevac where police found marijuana. He leads the so-called free university and is an activist in ecological movements, shedding new light on the motives and methods of the blockade organizers.

Who Pays the Price?

The biggest losers are the students and the education system. The blockades prevent the normal course of education, and some participants themselves seek ways to study abroad. While the government and opposition blame each other, education in Serbia suffers, and the future of the youth is at risk.

What Next?

As the situation intensifies, the question arises — is this a fight for rights or a destructive game with the future? Are the blockades really a solution or just another way to create chaos and divide society? And in the end, who will truly come out as the winner?
