All Serbian Representatives Won Medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad in Dubai

Chemistry Olympiad in Dubai: Serbia Shines with Four Medals!

Did you know that Serbia won four medals at the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad in Dubai? Yes, you read that right! All our representatives came home with medals around their necks, and one of them, Janko Popović, became the most successful competitor in Serbia’s history at this prestigious competition.

Serbia at the Top of the Chemistry World

This year, from July 5 to 14, competitors from 90 countries gathered in Dubai. Our team of four shone brightly: Janko Popović from the Mathematical Gymnasium in Belgrade won a silver medal, while bronze medals went to Uroš Mladenović from the Gymnasium in Kruševac, Luka Švraka from the “Isidora Sekulić” Gymnasium in Novi Sad, and Andrej Drobnjaković from the Mathematical Gymnasium.

Janko Popović – Serbia’s Chemistry Hero

Janko is no stranger to the winner’s podium. Last year, he won gold in Saudi Arabia, and the year before that, bronze in Switzerland. This year, with a silver medal, he further cemented his status as Serbia’s most successful competitor in the history of this competition. Is this the start of a new era for Serbian chemistry or just a lucky streak? Either way, the support from the Ministry of Education and the company NIS through the “Energy of Knowledge” program plays a crucial role.

Support and Preparation – The Recipe for Success

The team’s mentors, Prof. Dr. Dušan Sladić and Dr. Dušan Malenov, together with the Serbian Chemical Society, organized intensive preparations at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Belgrade. Since 2013, NIS has supported the Serbian Chemistry Olympiad and the preparation of competitors, resulting in an impressive 44 medals at international competitions – 2 gold, 14 silver, and 28 bronze, plus three commendations.

Why Does This Matter?

The International Chemistry Olympiad is not just a competition – it’s an arena where the most talented high school students from around the world showcase their knowledge and skills in chemistry. The five-hour theoretical and practical tests are no joke, and our young chemists have proven they can compete with the best.

What’s Next?

These results are not just medals on a wall – they are proof that Serbia has a future in science. Programs like NIS’s “Energy of Knowledge” and support from the Ministry of Education are key to developing young talents. If you love chemistry or just want to see how success is made, follow these young geniuses and their adventures in the world of science.

Proud of our medals? Or think it’s time Serbia starts winning gold? Drop a comment, share your thoughts, or just crack a chemistry joke – you know we love a good laugh!
