Scandal in Podgorica: Congratulating Fascists Sparks Outrage and Backlash

Fascist Congratulation in Podgorica: How Milivoje Brdža Brković Sparked a Political Earthquake

Podgorica is in shock! Milivoje Brdža Brković, a councilor from the Budućnost coalition and partner of Mayor Saša Mujović, decided to celebrate July 13th, Montenegro’s Statehood Day, in a way that left many speechless – by congratulating collaborators of the fascist occupiers! Yes, you read that right.

On his Facebook profile, Brdža Brković shared a photo in front of a museum dedicated to Dragoljub Draža Mihailović, the leader of the Chetnik movement who collaborated with fascist occupiers during World War II. Alongside the photo, he wrote: “Happy Statehood Day,” but not just any – one that celebrates those who collaborated with the fascists.

This provocation did not go unnoticed. AA Cikotić, vice president of SDPA and representative of the European Union, sharply condemned the gesture. On X (formerly Twitter), Cikotić asked whether the gesture of their partner might have offended the sensitive ears of Pesa, or if only the whistles react? Maybe they put earplugs in on the second day of the holiday? And then they complain when we whistle at the fascist coalition, she said, clearly indicating that such behavior is unacceptable.

What adds fuel to the fire is the fact that Saša Mujović, the mayor and coalition partner of Brdža Brković, is known for his habit of swearing, and Cikotić sarcastically added that she now at least expects him to say “go away fascism.”

This situation casts a serious shadow over the Budućnost coalition and raises questions about what messages they are sending to the citizens of Montenegro. Is it possible that in the 21st century someone publicly celebrates collaborators of the fascist regime? And what does this say about political culture and responsibility in the capital?

While political parties accuse each other and shift responsibility, citizens remain confused and disappointed. Will anyone bear consequences for such provocation? Or will it all end with tweets and harsh words?

In any case, this topic is explosive and will surely be discussed for a long time. What do you think? Is this just another political scandal or a sign of deeper problems in society? Drop a comment, maybe together we can shed light on this dark side of politics!
