Most’s Amendment Expands Insured Rights, But Opposition Left Without Support

Government Accepts Only Opposition Amendment: Most Expands Insured Rights While Other Amendments Fail!

In a sea of rejected amendments, one managed to pass – the amendment by Ante Kujundžić from Most! The government accepted his amendment to the Mandatory Health Insurance Act, which expands the circle of insured persons exempt from the obligation to report to the Croatian Health Insurance Fund (HZZO) once every three months.

Previously, exceptions included persons on maternity and parental benefits, persons with third and fourth degree disabilities, and those unable to attend due to health reasons. Kujundžić’s amendment now adds single parents with children up to seven years old, persons caring for severely ill family members, pupils, and students undergoing re-enrollment procedures.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Health Tomislav Dulibić confirmed that this was the only opposition amendment accepted by the government, while other opposition amendments were rejected.

Among the rejected amendments were proposals from the Možemo! club to limit the weight of school bags to 5-10% of the child’s weight, as well as amendments by SDP’s Marija Lugarić that aimed to expand the list of criminal offenses barring employment in healthcare and to enable automatic activation of free bank accounts for citizens.

Urša Raukar Gamulin from Možemo! sharply criticized the rejection of an amendment that would prevent employment of persons with criminal offenses against humanity, human dignity, and health, questioning if they are waiting for another scandal like the one with the gynecologist in Osijek.

Finally, it is worth noting that the legislative changes and amendments were voted on in the Croatian Parliament at noon, and the opposition was left disappointed as most of their proposals were rejected, except for this one Most amendment that does bring concrete benefits to certain groups of citizens.

So, what do you think? Is this just a drop in the ocean or a first sign that the opposition can actually make a difference? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s for and who’s against these changes!
