Paus Demands Regular Ferry Line for Unije and Susak, Puljak Calls for Greater City Powers

Ferry Chaos on the Adriatic: Why Are Unije and Susak Still Left Without Regular Connections?

The Adriatic islands of Unije and Susak remain the only inhabited islands without regular ferry service. Dalibor Paus, a member of parliament from IDS, has raised his voice demanding at least one regular ferry line per week or every two weeks from Pula. Yes, just one line per week!

Why is this a problem? Because without ferries, there is no life. Residents of these islands struggle for basic living conditions, while the state remains silent. Paus clearly stated that the survival of life on these islands is a serious and urgent issue.

Nightclubs and Local Authorities: Who Decides on Noise and Peace?

On the other hand, MP Marijana Puljak from the Center party called for greater powers for local units to regulate the operation of nightclubs. Cities and municipalities should be able to designate zones where nightclubs are not allowed, especially in densely populated urban areas, near schools, hospitals, and protected historical cores.

Puljak emphasized that citizens and responsible hospitality workers have long been dissatisfied with irresponsible tourism that destroys public order and peace. Cities are struggling more and more with the consequences of such tourism, and legislation does not give them enough tools to fight it.

Why Are These Problems Being Swept Under the Rug?

While on one side there is a demand for basic transport for the islands, on the other, there is an attempt to give local authorities the power to protect their citizens from noise and disorder. It is obvious that the system does not work properly.

Why does the state not want to solve the ferry transport problem? Why are local communities not given greater powers to regulate nightlife? These are questions screaming for answers.

What Next?

Paus and Puljak have raised important issues concerning the quality of life and survival of communities. But will their proposals pass? Will the injustices against the islands finally end and will cities be given the power to protect their citizens?

While we wait for answers, maybe it’s time for you to share your opinion. Are you for regular ferries to Unije and Susak? Should cities have greater powers over nightclubs? Drop a comment, maybe your voice will spark change!
