Tunnel Affair: Police Witnesses Unveil Secrets of the Higher Court Depot Break-In

Have you ever heard of a tunnel that became the star of one of the most bizarre heists in Montenegro? Welcome to the “Tunnel Affair” – where thieves didn’t just break in, they dug an underground passage to enter the Higher Court depot in Podgorica!

A Tunnel Straight Out of a Movie

Police officer Tomo Femić, who personally crawled through this mysterious tunnel, described how the first part was so narrow he had to crawl, while the rest he could move through on his knees. Imagine that – a man 183 cm tall and weighing 83 kg turning into a crawling expert to investigate the crime scene! The tunnel passage took about an hour, and inside he encountered a pipe, a manhole, and slight subsidence, but no obstacles that would block the way.

Crawler Robot and Mysterious Openings

At the trial, it was revealed that a crawler robot equipped with a camera and lighting was used to explore the tunnel. There were two openings in the depot wall, one so narrow that the robot barely fit through. The defense lawyer challenged some police testimonies, claiming the tunnel might have been widened to allow the robot in, while other witnesses insisted no one could have altered the openings during the investigation.

Who Are the Accused?

The trial is against eight accused from Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, including Veljko M. Marković, Milan T. Marković, Dejan D. Jovanović, Vladimir M. Erić, Predrag M. Mirotić, Katarina D. Baćović, Nikola D. Milačić, and Marijan P. Vuljaj. They are all charged with breaking and entering and stealing material evidence from the Higher Court depot.

Digital Evidence and Uncertainties

Expert Nikola Cmiljanić confirmed that the footage did not allow identification of the license plates of a Renault Clio allegedly used in the heist. The investigation found the tunnel was dug at the end of July, the break-in occurred on September 8, and the theft of material evidence on September 11.

Why Does This Matter?

This affair sheds light on serious security lapses in judicial institutions. How is it possible that someone digs a tunnel under a court and isn’t immediately detected? Is this just the tip of the iceberg of corruption and negligence?

Conclusion

The “Tunnel Affair” is not just a story about a heist but about how the system can be breached in the most unexpected ways. As the trial continues, the public eagerly follows every detail of this unusual case.

If you thought you’ve seen it all in crime stories, think again! This tunnel proves truth can be stranger than fiction. What do you think – just a freak accident or something much deeper? Drop a comment, maybe together we’ll uncover another secret of this tunnel!
