Mediocrity in Power: Why Serbia is Sinking Under the Weight of Average

When mediocrity takes power, Serbia doesn’t just sink into problems, it plunges into a deep intellectual and moral crisis. Milan St. Protić exposes in his column that the biggest problem of Serbia is precisely the mediocrity at the helm of the state – a semi-intellectual without vision, character, or ability, who uses power as a stage for his own vanity and greed.

The mediocre love to see themselves as geniuses, but in reality, they cannot tolerate even the slightest trace of free thought. They are unbearable, jealous, and ready to trample anyone who opposes them. Their hatred of education, talent, and originality leads to the complete collapse of institutions and social values.

Under their rule, Serbia has become a land of cheap labor, polluted nature, and dangerous infrastructure projects of poor quality. Every roof, balcony, or tunnel poses a threat to citizens’ lives, and they don’t know a millimeter of landslide, yet impose their signatures on dangerous and unsafe projects.

Mediocrity hates school and the educated because they constantly show how crude and unintelligent they are. The university is their enemy, and their governance is synonymous with suppressing education and glorifying ignorance.

While students and young people fight for basic rights and freedom of thought, mediocrity suffocates, insults, and tries to silence them. They are dictators without vision, holding Serbia back, preventing any intellectual and social progress.

This column is a wake-up call – to free ourselves from mediocrity and give youth the chance to develop their potentials, to think freely and responsibly. Because without intellectual freedom, there is no political freedom, and Serbia deserves better than mediocrity and dullness in power.

If you’re fed up with mediocrities who think they know everything but know nothing, drop a comment and share your thoughts – maybe together we can find a way out of this vicious circle!
