Welcome to the film soap opera of the year! The Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) has announced the jury lineup for the competitive feature film program, and no, this is not a joke – it’s a true film galaxy! Leading the jury is Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa, who has already won the honorary Heart of Sarajevo award and will now decide who takes home the prestigious Heart of Sarajevo prize on August 22, at the festival’s grand finale. Joining him are our well-known actor Dragan Mićanović, Romanian director and actor Emanuel Parvu, Bosnian-Dutch director Ena Sendijarević, and American journalist and Berlinale festival director Tricia Tuttle.
This jury isn’t just a list of names; it’s a powerhouse of film talent! Emanuel Parvu was Romania’s Oscar candidate and last year won the Heart of Sarajevo for best film. Ena Sendijarević has represented the Netherlands multiple times at the Oscars. Tricia Tuttle comes from Berlinale, one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals.
But let’s be honest – isn’t this a bit much? Has the Sarajevo Film Festival turned into an elitist club for film bigwigs? Where are the young guns, the new waves? Or is this just another sign that everything revolves around famous names while true art gets shoved aside?
The festival runs from August 15 to 22, and everyone’s watching who will win the Heart of Sarajevo. Will the jury be fair, or will they shock us with a controversial pick? One thing’s for sure – this year’s SFF won’t go unnoticed!
