Today Committee Meeting on Constitutional Amendments in Montenegro

Today at 11 AM, the Constitutional Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro will hold a session to discuss the government’s proposal to amend the Constitution. According to the proposed amendments, the Minister of Justice will no longer be a member of the Judicial Council. Additionally, the Parliament will note the termination of the function of Constitutional Court judge Budimir Šćepanović, who has reached retirement age, leaving only four judges in the Constitutional Court.

Political Perspectives:

Left: Left-leaning outlets emphasize the importance of constitutional reforms as a step towards strengthening judicial independence and reducing political influence in the judiciary. They highlight the removal of the Minister of Justice from the Judicial Council as a positive move to ensure separation of powers.

Center: Centrist sources report the facts of the constitutional amendments and the committee meeting in a neutral tone, focusing on procedural details such as the retirement of a Constitutional Court judge and the proposed changes to the Judicial Council membership.

Right: Right-leaning media may express concerns about the pace and nature of constitutional changes, emphasizing the potential political motivations behind the reforms and the impact on the balance of power within the judiciary.
