Details have been released in the media about the collision between an American Airlines passenger plane and a military “Black Hawk” helicopter near Reagan National Airport in Washington. Flight controllers asked the plane’s crew a few minutes before landing if they could land on a shorter runway, to which the pilots responded affirmatively. Less than 30 seconds before the collision, the controller asked the helicopter pilot if he could see the plane, but the collision occurred shortly afterward.
