Trial of Andrej Vučić over lawsuit against media

The main hearing in the lawsuit filed by Andrej Vučić against the daily newspapers and the portal Vijesti was held at the Basic Court in Podgorica. Andrej Vučić, brother of the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, stated that the article in question dehumanized and criminalized his brother as well as himself. He emphasized that he has never been convicted nor has any criminal proceedings been initiated against him, and that he has no connections to criminal groups. Vučić is a member of the Serbian Progressive Party but does not consider himself a public figure and has not given statements to the media about the party’s work. Lawyer Tomica Knežević pointed out that the article was published without verifying information and that the aim is to compromise and endanger the safety of Andrej Vučić and his family. The trial was attended by DNPA leader Milan Knežević, who stated that such articles aim to criminalize the President of Serbia.

Political Perspectives:

Left: Left-leaning outlets tend to emphasize the potential misuse of media power and the importance of protecting individuals from defamatory and unverified accusations. They may highlight the lack of journalistic ethics and the dangers of sensationalism in media, while also scrutinizing the political connections of the Vučić family.

Center: Centrist sources report the facts of the trial straightforwardly, focusing on the legal proceedings and statements made by Andrej Vučić and his lawyer. They present the case as a legal dispute over defamation and media responsibility without strong bias, noting the political context but maintaining neutrality.

Right: Right-leaning media often stress the victimization of Andrej Vučić and his family by biased and hostile media outlets. They emphasize the political motivations behind the defamatory articles and portray the lawsuit as a justified defense of the Vučić family’s honor and integrity against malicious attacks.
