The catamaran Melita, operating on the Zadar – Sali – Zaglav route, experienced an accident on Monday evening around 10 PM, shortly before entering the port of Zadar. Water penetrated the hull of the vessel, causing it to start sinking. There were 38 passengers and 5 crew members on board. A rescue operation was immediately launched involving the ferry Jadran, the port authority boat, and other relevant services. All passengers and crew were successfully evacuated and transferred to safety. The vessel was then towed to the Gaženica port for further handling. The cause of the accident is still unknown and under investigation. The incident occurred during a severe storm that hit the Zadar area. The Melita catamaran is known as one of the safest catamarans on the Adriatic, built in Norway, with a capacity to carry passengers in an air-conditioned salon, 27 meters long and capable of speeds up to 30 knots.
