Serbian Clubs Oust Cibona from ABA League

Serbian clubs that are part of the ownership structure of the ABA League voted against Cibona’s stay in the elite competition, meaning Cibona will play in the ABA 2 league next season. The decision was made despite support from Montenegrin clubs and conditions set by Cibona, including financial demands. This situation may lead to a blockade of the competition and the potential dissolution of the existing ABA League entity and the establishment of a new one. Clubs such as Crvena Zvezda, Partizan, FMP, Mega, Igokea, and Cedevita Olimpija voted against Cibona, while Zadar and Montenegrin clubs supported its stay. This decision represents a new blow to the former European giant Cibona, which has lost prestige and standing in the ABA League in recent years.

Political Perspectives:

Left: Left-leaning outlets emphasize the negative impact of the decision on Cibona, highlighting the loss for regional basketball and the potential destabilization of the ABA League. They may criticize the dominance of Serbian clubs in decision-making and call for more equitable treatment of all clubs in the league.

Center: Centrist sources report the facts of the vote and the consequences for Cibona, focusing on the procedural aspects and the financial and sporting conditions that led to the decision. They present views from all sides, including the Serbian clubs’ rationale and Cibona’s position.

Right: Right-leaning media may highlight the authority and influence of Serbian clubs in the ABA League, framing the decision as a justified move based on sporting merit and financial responsibility. They might emphasize the need for strong management and consequences for clubs that do not meet league standards.
