Horst Keler, ex-German president, died at 81.

Former German President Horst Köhler, who was once the head of the International Monetary Fund, passed away at the age of 81 in Berlin. Köhler was the first German president who was not a party politician and served from 2004 to 2010, when he resigned. He distinguished himself in foreign policy matters, particularly by strengthening relations with Poland and Israel. He was born in 1943 in occupied Poland and fled with his family to West Germany. He worked as a civil servant.
